Amazing late 1930's/early 1940's Black Dress with Satin Piping
A beautiful black dress from late 1930's/early 1940's with stunning shaping and satin piping and faceted buttons to the back with satin loops.
The dress is fitted across the hips, leading to pleats.
Stunning detailing to the sleeves.
The gorgeous black faceted buttons are done up with loops, all in tact and functioning, and the dress also opens up a little bit on the side to help to get it on. The side closure has poppers.
This is a weighty dress that hangs so beautifully. The silhouette is classic early 1940's with a stunning midriff panel and gathers on the bodice front and back.
No label. The fabric of the dress has a silky underside so it feels like it is lined, but it is part of the fabric. The interior photo shows that the midriff section is lined in a different, striped fabric - very "make do and mend"!
Condition: The issues to note are that some of the seams that run down across the stomach and hips are coming undone slightly at the tops, and some parts of the satin piping is slightly bitten. There are also two small darns next to two of the back buttons. The dress is rather tricky to get on as the side only opens up wider instead of opening completely, this could perhaps be changed if you are a dressmaker.
